Finale
The biggest thing I learned in studying Marvel was that I could navigate the Gale Business Databases. I avoided the business databases like the plague and now I feel I can help a patron find what they are looking for without having a MBA. I learned so much about the databases we studied that I feel very comfortable exploring them on my own or teaching others how to use them. Understanding databases will be useful in helping my young patrons do those dreaded book reports. I will be able to help them find extra reference materials that are not in ours or the school's library stacks. Novelist is wonderful for reader reference and for knowing what book is next in a series. Marvel is also great for teachers and parents who come in looking for help with lesson plans or fun activities. This course has also forced me to create my first blog and maintain it which was not as nearly as hard as I thought it would be. Thank you to all who put this course together! It definitely has helped make my job easier.

Exiting through Ebsco
Little l.a. traveled down the yellow brick road till she came to large marble building with two stone lions posed outside of it. This must be some sort of library she thought. She opened the massive wooden doors and walked into a beautiful room with mosaics on the ceiling. Little l.a. explored the room, only to find rows and rows of books. There was books on any subject but if that wasn't enough anytime Little l.a. said aloud the type of book she wanted it would appear out of thin air. The library seemed to be alive, it seemed to want to please Little l.a.and make her feel right at home. After finding several interesting books, Little l.a. found the most cozy couch to snuggled in for a good read. Unfortunately the time had come for Little l.a. to leave the Land of Marvel and return home. Little l.a. had learned many great things in the Land of Marvel and could not wait to share it with all her friends. Little l.a. left Marvel knowing she would visit again but could not wait to get home because of course there is no place like home.
I have not used the Ebsco Database before so much of what I learned was new to me. I did not realize that Ebsco contained so many books and magazines. I was pleasantly surprised to find several art and artist magazines. I will definitely use this database in the future to find resources I need. I did a search for "what foods has zinc in them?" and got over 400 results. I used the subject tab on the left hand side to narrow down my results and get what I was looking for. I then went through the articles and found that zinc is found in red meat, poultry, seafood, beans, nuts and cheese.
The Ebsco E-books is also a database I have never used. I did a search for the artist Frida Kahlo and was surprised to see a biography e-book about her. I will definitely read more of this later. I searched for Constitution Day and kept getting results about Constitiution Day in other countries and not the United States. After much frustration I checked out some of my fellow students' blogs to see if they had the same problem. One person had the same problem and suggested doing a visual search. The visual search produced the information I was looking for and I had no problem finding information about Constitution Day in the United States. I found a book called "We the People Constitution and Citizenship" by Linda Joseph. I did a search for Western History with Oklahoma in the Publisher box. This search resulted in 6 books about various topics published by the University of Oklahoma Press. I found doing a search this way is helpful in finding information that might be specific to certain areas of the country. Over all the Ebsco Databases are easy to use but sometimes narrowing the results down to what you are looking for can be a little work. I would recommend this database to anyone of my patrons.
My exploration of Marvel has been an enlightening experience and it will definitely help me in sharing Marvel with my patrons and co-workers. Thank you for the opportunity to learn more about Marvel.
My book recommendation of the week is "Pushing the Limits" by Katie McGarry. This teen novel is a gripping story about Echo and Noah. Echo is trying remember what happened to her the night that resulted in with scars on her arms and Noah wants to be reunited with his brothers who have been adopted. Together they will try to break into the counselor's office and get the answers, but was falling in love part of the plan. Check it out in "Pushing the Limits". I am a little bias to this book especially since the author is my sister. Happy Holidays to all!
