I was very interested in this assignment on the Consumer Health Resources databases. At some time or another I or someone I know needs medical information. I always want to make sure that the information I am acquiring is good medical facts and not some one's opinion. I found both Health Source Consumer Edition and Medline easy to use and wealth of information.
Health Source has many different types of magazine articles and medical journals. I found that the majority of the articles are well written and easy to read. The academic articles are a little hard to understand because they are geared toward medical professionals but the information in them is very good.
When I studied the Medline database of found current news articles on:
"Head Injury, Pesticides tied to Parkinson's Disease"
"Migraine-Associated Brain Changes not Related to Impaired Cognition"
"U.S. Premature Birthrate Continues to Drop"
The top key word searches I found were cancer, diabetes, polio and vitamin D. I found both of these links easy to use.
The Drug Information section is useful in finding information about why a medicine is prescribed, how to take medication, possible side effects or drug interacts. This information is easy to understand and to find.
The Health Topics section is broken down so that it is easy to find what subject you are looking for and what topics that may be related to that subject. The Video section is easy to search and to find topics to view. I found the video very informative and helpful.
Both Health Source and Medline are very helpful in finding any medical information that one is looking for and I would definitely recommend them to anyone I know looking for medical information.
My book recommendation this week is "Snow Rabbit, Spring Rabbit: A Book of Changing Seasons" by Il Sung Na. I was just processing this book and I fell in love with the illustrations and the it's simple text. I can't wait to read it at story time!
